One of the best ways to curb them from diverting their energy into something destructive is to come up with interesting backyard games. Some great backyard game ideas have been outlined below.
Giant Ladybug VS Bumblebee Tic-Tac-Toe
Tic-Tac-Toe may not be such a strange game but the giant one is what people may find difficult to figure out. You will make a giant wooden template and draw the normal Tic-Tac-Toe lines on it. Each player will choose either ladybug or bumblebee. Like the normal Tic-Tac-Toe game, only two players can play at once. You need to get some small well rounded rocks and also get some red, black and yellow paints.
You will get 6 rocks and paint 3 like a ladybug and the other 3 bumblebee. The idea is to make insect-like stones. You could make the wooden template yourself. Once you are done with the painting, the game is set. The same Tic-Tac-Toe rules apply. The idea will be very attractive to the kids. But it is not for kids that are below three years as they could put any of the stones in their mouth.
This is another very interesting game and your kids will love it. All you need to do is to erect a wide pegboard and tie many inflated balloon on the board. Your kids will now take turns to throw darts at the balloons to deflate them. The one that deflates the most balloons is the winner of the game. Remember, kids will always be kids, so you have to monitor it to ensure orderliness.
Another backyard game idea is ring toss. Arrange several empty bottles separately on the field at your backyard. Draw a line where a player will stand to throw a ring on any of the empty bottles. The idea is to use the rings to circle the bottle. Your kids will take turns in throwing rings. Any bottle that has been circled is removed immediately. The player who circles the most bottles wins the game.
In another version of the game, bottles are arranged in a triangular form with the base row that has the highest number of bottles nearest to the player. Points are allocated to each bottle based on their proximity to the player. The furthest bottle gets the highest point. So points are accumulated for each player and the player with the highest aggregate score wins the game.
The number of backyard games that you can set up is infinite. It is just a matter of creativity and innovation.
