The Essentials for Great Outdoor Living

12/27/2017

Before I started designing my outdoor living space, which was a new and improved man cave, I thought about the space and what my ideal outcome would look like. Some friends of mine started building at the same time, all having different mistakes and success’, although we all shared one. Our biggest pitfall was thinking about the new space as outside, opposed to picturing it as a part of our home, which meant we compromised on functionality and had to fix issues later down the line. Which is a big reason why I’m writing this, sharing my knowledge about what I would change if I have another shot. Instead of a step by step guide I thought I’d write down some essentials, almost a
The “Essentials”
As I mentioned above, I thought about my future man cave as just another part of the house, a room that needed the bare essentials to be a great outdoor space.
Entertainment
I’m a big music lover, it is a big part of my life and became an essential part of my build. The atmosphere I wanted was just to relax, which is why having a sound system was integral to my design. Friends installed flat screens, while other chose to include a gaming system in their outdoor area. An essential part of the design of you outdoor living area, is the entertainment value, what makes you relax? The outdoor living area, when it comes down to it, serves one purpose which is to entertain you or add something to your life. Installing that is essential, as the sole reason is to enjoy the environment you have built, so part of the design needs to be dedicated to that.
Comfort
Whatever purpose you’ve built you outdoor living space, a comfortable place to sit is always a welcome treat, this essential does not have to stay within the lines of furniture. It can also be: blankets, fabrics, throw cushions among many other things. What brings you comfort? Put that in there, need a place for you four legged friend? Put that in there.
Preparing for changing weather
If you are lucky enough to live in a place, where the sun shines every day, this may not be an essential to you. However it is an essential to most of us, as the weather can be inconsistent and potentially cause damage to your new outdoor living area. This can be a number of things, such as: high winds, torrential rain or snow storms.
This was my essentials when it came to designing my outdoor living space, it wasn’t as simple as expected, but with a little preparation the project came out great. If you have advice, further questions or would like to read more about outdoor living spaces, please check out the rest of our content on our website. As for now, prepare prepare and prepare so more. Have a little patience and have a clear view of your personal and design aims.

3 Tips to Design an Outdoor Living Space

12/27/2017

Whether you have bought a new home or updating your current one, designing a new feature to your residence is always going to be a little intimidating, to both DIY enthusiasts and those seeking expert help. Designing a new outdoor living space is a great way: to add value to your property, creating new memories with your family and utilise available space. We have laid out our top tips, a small to do list, before the first purchase of your brand new project.
What first?
The number one common mistake, we found in our years of experience, is attempting several projects at one time. It would be a lie to claim that building is easy, that there won’t be times of stress, or there will be no holdups due to weather or other practicalities. We suggest beginning with one project at a time, which means you will need to consider which item do you want completed first? Is it that a: swimming pool, a workspace or an outdoor eating area? What suits your lifestyle and which item will you benefit from the most?
On the other hand, if you are remodelling to sell your home, what adds value and make the property appealing to buyers?
Budget and Investment Pieces
Budgeting is always going to be a fundamental when it comes to new projects, it’s a great way to see the expenditures and get an estimation of your new feature. However the way some budget can be questionable, especially when it comes to saving money on materials and labour. This is a common, expensive and potentially a dangerous action. Designing an outdoor living space is an investment, which should considered as such in all aspects of design. Better materials can be more expensive, but there’s a reason for that, such as: wear and tear, safety standards and long term value.
Avoiding the DIY hole
Quite simply put, don’t dig yourself into a hole (literally and figuratively), DIY is all when it and good. Pride can be your worst enemy during any part of life, it can become extremely costly to fix enthusiastic/amateur issues, if you can’t don’t have the skills to do some DON’T attempt it. Seeking advice from professionals, perhaps even a full service, is the best way to ensure your project is completed successfully. Remember no man is an island.
The advice we have given may seem simple but, in our many years experience, are very common mistakes. Overall when planning and designing an outdoor living space you will need is: time, money and a bit of patience. Our article isn’t going to help you build an Olympic size swimming pool over night; however it will get you there eventually, if you have the space of course. Before purchasing your first item, or speak to labourers, consider all the above factors in great detail. It will save you time and budget. If you have any questions, or seek more information, check out our website. For now, happy project planning!

Landscaping Swimming Pools - Getting the Hang of it

12/27/2017

If you have recently installed a swimming pool in your back garden then well done! Now all you need to do is wait for the next warm day and invite your friends and family round to enjoy it! Although, you can’t really invite them round if you’ve just got a big pool smack bang in the middle of the garden. In order to make it look really nice you need to landscape it. This may seem like a big task and one you may have been putting off, but don’t worry we’re here to help you get the hang of it with some handy tips.
Correct fencing and decking
A large majority of cities will not allow a swimming pool to be built unless it has the proper safety fencing around it. Because of this, your fence will be a main feature of your pool – so ensure that you choose one that you don’t mind seeing all the time. Have a look at the area surrounding the pool and try and pick one that will go with the natural surroundings. If you already have some wood in the area, picking a fence that matches that will make it fit right in.
Another thing to remember is that you don’t want to place the fence too close to the pool. If it is right next to it, you will have no room to place any plants or other ornaments next to your pool. Above ground pools will generally have a decking wrapped around it with a wooden fence, while built in pools will likely have paving around the outside.
Choose the right plants
When deciding your plants, you will probably want to have some shade to cool off in. However, don’t let this mean that you just pick any old tree because you will end up raking leaves out of the pool more often than you will spend in it. Choose a tree that doesn’t shed it leaves too much to save you time on this.
Bear in mind that while it may be a nice idea to have nice, fragrant shrubbery around the pool – these are the kinds of plants that attract bees and wasps. So unless you really like bees and don’t mind having them buzz around your pool all day then stay well clear of these.
Add something a little different
It can be tempting to just add some paving and a few bushes and be done with it, but if you really want to wow your guests, why not add something more unique? Towel rails make a great addition. Not only do they look good but they’re also really practical – everyone will need a towel after being in the pool. Or why not some storage for some inflatables? Not just for kids, adults will also love lounging on these inflatables, and if they’re within easy reach they’re more likely to be used.

Swimming Pool Renovation Ideas

12/27/2017

Owning a swimming pool can put you right at the top of the cool factor with your friends. It can also add significant value to your property. You can be Mr. popular with the pool parties or use it for personal use, relaxing length swimming, grab yourself a floating prompt and read your favorite book. You can do all this whilst enjoying the modern features today’s world has to offer. No more dull pools, pimp your pool up with these top 5 renovation ideas.

LED Lighting.
LED lighting is all your questions answered in one. This will give you the glow effect, relaxing sensation people crave in all pools. Perfect for these pool parties mentioned above. You can also get these in different colors.

Spas use them for relaxation therapy. They are cost effective and will not break the bank. For the value these lights add it is well worth the purchase. You can purchase these at most lighting shops or online. Fitting them can be done by yourself with manual booklet to follow or if you are unsure do not hesitate to call a professional.

Water Accessories.
These features can really topoff the look of your swimming pool alongside the LED lighting system. Now they are not the cheapest of equipment but again will look really well. You can put in place a waterfall to give the real feel of a holiday.  If you want to do something different to everyone else, install sprayers. These you find in the leisure pools, really fun to have. If your pool is of a decent size, why not have a built on spa section. You can enjoy your swimming then hop into the spa section for a cool down.

Salt Water.
Salt water is being used more and more as the years go by. This is because it is a much more efficient way of cycling a swimming pool. These systems are used to pump chlorine into the water. These pools are usually easier on the eyes, skin and your hair meaning you can swim without the fear of the aftermath.

Resurfacing your pool.
This is not the cheapest option but if you have enough budget left it is advisable. This will give your pool a much longer life span. You are supposed to repair the surface every 10 to 15 years. The materials come in different effects, from stone to shell. This can give your pool a completely new look.

Automotion.
Are you sick and tired of always cleaning your pool? Well now you don't have to. You can purchase a nice little gadget that will clean your pool for you, even if it is an old pool. To help keep your pool clean you can also purchase an automatic cover, another item that will save you doing the work. These can also be controlled from the comfort of your phone.

Renovating your pool can be a rewarding task, and if done properly, give you the coolest pool on your street.

The Art Of Swimming Pool Landscaping

12/27/2017

Swimming pool landscaping is an up and coming area of design that is growing in complexity and what can be offered. With landscaping turning more and more into an art form, there’s no denying that manufacturing the perfect finish on such an integral part of a family home is pushing landscape architects into the future.

Designing a swimming pool and surrounding area demands a lot from the designer but the most important thing to consider throughout the project is what the end user has asked for. With such a wide variety of uses for swimming pools and their surroundings there is no point in designing an Olympic sized swimming pool when it will be used for parties only. Once the limitations have been set into stone then the fun of designing can truly begin in earnest.

There is a lot of things to consider when it comes to landscaping a swimming pool area but one of the biggest by far is the size and shape of the swimming pool itself and where it will sit in the area. There are an infinite number of designs for the pool itself and working out the logistics of this is integral for the overall design process. A square swimming pool with sharp corners demands different surroundings to one that us more circular and rounded in shape.

Of course it isn’t just the pool itself that demands a lot of attention and a lot of the finish comes down to the materials that are being used. The more recent trends are turning towards natural lighter colours to balance the overall fluidity of the swimming pool area and this influence has a masterful effect on the atmosphere of the pool itself. This is particularly important for outdoor pools as they are able to flow from indoors to outdoors and nature in one swift movement looking perfectly in place no matter how you look at it.

Of course it isn’t all about the pool and the colours you use but a large part of how to design a swimming pool landscape is about the amenities you’re adding to it. With fire pits, fireplaces, kitchens, barbecues, furniture and multi-media entertainment becoming more regularly incorporated into these spaces, you need to have the foresight to see how they will all work together. The good thing about adding these different components into your swimming pool landscape is that it helps to give the overall area different aspects and make them interesting to view.

Swimming pool landscaping is a vital part of designing your swimming pool area and getting someone that understands how different shapes and tones work together is vital. The biggest thing to remember is that setting out clear guidelines at the start of the project is vital if you’re hoping to make the most of what’s available.
