When it comes to sprucing up your backyard, not everyone has a massive budget. While just paying professionals for these things and getting them put in seems like the only way to go, these brilliant low budget ideas for your backyard might change your mind.
Sports
Installing a basketball ring or a goal post might seem like the go to ideas but to stay within our ‘budget’ boundaries, we’ll go for using pool noodles or hula hoops to make a nice foot croquet stadium. You can also build a custom practice board for your children by cutting shapes into a tarp and hanging it between trees or fences. Assign points to each shape and see who can get the most throws through the cut outs. You can even build your own mini-golf course with creative ideas for the holes.
Chair Swing
If you have an old chair lying around, cut off the legs, paint it an attractive color, get some rope, and tie it to a nice thick tree branch. You have your very own chair swing.
Tree Lighting
A tree in the yard can really advantage from the right lighting. Just putting one spotlight near the trunk pointing upwards would give it a nice look at night. Putting in lighting strings through the branches is also good but our favorite idea is the tree chandelier. Take an old chandelier, replace the bulbs with economical solar lights, and hang it from a branch.
Colored Nests
If you leave scraps of colored yarn in a feeder near a tree, birds will use that yarn to build their nests. This leaves you with naturally built, colorful bird nests in your backyard.
Splash Pad
All you need is a clean piece of tarp and a sprinkler. Lay the tarp down on the ground, nail the edges using metal stakes and place the sprinkler in the middle. Turn the sprinkler on and you have yourself a nice splash pad that can also be used as an awesome slip n slide by the children.
Water Battles
As long as you have water and two teams of warriors, you can have water battles in your backyard. You could use inexpensive water pistols or arm your soldiers with water balloons. Filling up some balloons with water and hanging them from tree branches is a good way to liven up the battlefield. You could also build barracks out of plastic tables and lawn chairs.
Water Bed
Cut out 2 pieces of tarp and roll over the edges and seal them with duct tape. Leave a hole for a water hose. Once you’re done patching it up. Fill it up with water and you have yourself your very own waterbed. As long as you keep sealing any leaks, it could last for hours with your kids jumping and sliding on it.
Fence Decoration
We have 2 great ideas for the fence. The first is to put up mirrors on your fence or even along the whole thing. This makes your backyard look much bigger. The other idea is to drill holes in your fence and fill them with marbles. Sunlight falling on your fence will create a very pretty sight.
