How To Remove The Clutter From Your Home

When we have resided in an area for a long period of time, we tend to acquire a great deal of extraneous clutter that we develop a sentimental attachment to. Unfortunately, this natural impulse also tends to keep our homes from looking their very best. Let's take a closer look at some useful clutter clearing ideas that will give your home a more streamlined appearance.


Attack Your Work Areas First


Are you finding it increasingly difficult to get any work done? Is your desk loaded with clutter that keeps you from getting settled in? If so, this is a sure sign that you need to remove all of the unnecessary clutter from this area. All junk mail, sticky notes and outdated paperwork needs to be thrown away as soon as possible. You'll also want get rid of any old office supplies and obtain storage for the items that you are keeping.


Clean Out That Closet 


In many instances, the closet becomes the epicenter for all of the items in your home that do not have a real place. When we are in doubt, we usually toss certain items in the closet and forget about them, which only serves to add to the clutter that is present. Purge everything in your closet that does not have a purpose and ditch any clothes that you have not worn in the last calendar year.


Examine Your Car


If you have a cluttered car, it is only a matter of time before this clutter starts to migrate into the home. The car is one of the busiest places on our property, as items are constantly coming into and out of it. Those who do not take the time to clean out their vehicle are only adding to the clutter that will make its way into the home over the long haul. Using your car as a catch all for various clutter is not in your best interests.


Evaluate Your Junk Drawers


We have become such experts at collecting junk, we even have drawers in our homes that are designated for this purpose. When you have become fearful of opening your junk drawer, this is an indicator that you need to make some real changes. Anything that is broken, unneeded or expired needs to be thrown away as quickly as possible.


Examine Your Daily Routine


Our daily routines tend to attract a lot of clutter, so it behooves homeowners to examine the ins and outs of their schedule to make sure they are not creating added mess. Take a moment to consider your routine and get rid of any items that are keeping you from being able to accomplish tasks. There are several small changes to be made that can add up and pay major dividends.
