Children have a tendency for craving for their parents’ attention; it makes them feel wanted and loved. When you play with your child you’re creating an ever-lasting bond between yourself and your child. Your child becomes aware of just how special he or she is for you. The most important point is that playing with your child is the perfect way to reduce stress after a long and exhausting work day!
Computers have turned our children into couch potatoes and pediatricians are always stressing the need to give our kids more exercise. So, it’s important for parents to be good role models; go outside and play with your kids as you need it just as much as they do.
Here are some of the best backyard games that you could enjoy with your child; starting, of course, with the swimming pool!
These may also be referred to as submarine races or even dolphin races. Kids will use their imagination to invent their own names. The game requires you to hold your breath and see who can race the longest while swimming underwater!
This is a kind of a freeze tag game in the water. In the event of someone being tagged, they have to stand still and raise their hands upwards, like a popsicle. The most fun part of this game is you get to turn into a submarine; anyone swimming under water avoids getting tagged by “it”. Swimming past a “popsicle” will unfreeze them.
Shark in the Pool
This is another type of tag game in which players jump in and out of the pool. The “it” is a shark who tries to tag them when they jump into the water. If you get tagged by the shark , then you become “it”. Players are only allowed to stay out of the water for 5 seconds in order to let the shark catch them.
Another simple fun backyard game is toss! Use household items: some old food cans, sticks, and string. Kids love looking for sticks. The one tossing the most number of sticks in the can wins!
Potato Sack Race
This is a very popular and enjoyable family game. All you require is a sack or large pillow case (reaching the waist) for each player as well as having sufficient space for all the players to hop towards the finishing line. If sacks are unavailable, try playing a three-legged race; let adults pair with kids!
The best way for parents to win their kids’ hearts is to play with them and the best place to play is outdoors in the natural world!
