Steps To Cleaning Your Pool For The Summer

1/15/2017

Nothing ruins summer fun like a messy, dirty pool that you can’t swim in. Whether it’s full of dirt or there are leaves floating along the top and bottom, you want to get in and enjoy the summer as soon as possible. With these simple tips, you can properly clean a pool in no time and be relaxing in the nice summer sun.

1.Make sure that you have the right supplies for cleaning a pool. Of course, you can use your hands to clean up a lot of the debris that has fallen into the water, but without the right tools you are leaving behind a lot of mess. Invest in a good skimmer net and extendable pole for cleaning, and make sure you have a good set of cleaning brushes.
2.Skim the surface of your pool with the leaf skimmer to get the large debris off the surface. Go slowly when you do this so sticks and other sharp objects don’t cut or tear the netting. Don’t over fill your skimmer either, which can stretch the material. Take your time, and make sure that you have collected all the debris.
3.Once you are done with skimming, you are ready to do some scrubbing. Attach a scrubby brush to the pole and start scrubbing the sides of the pool, including all stairs and ladders. Areas with heavy traffic, uneven surfaces or treads will most likely require additional scrubbing.
4.Now you are ready to clean the floor of the pool. In order to adequately clean the floor of any pool, you will need to invest in a good pool vacuum. Insert the vacuum into the pool and make sure that it lays on the floor surface. Most people opt for an automatic cleaner that scoots around the bottom of the pool to clean, however, you can also invest in a manual cleaner with a filtering hose that collects debris in a removal bag. While a manual vacuum is more cost efficient, the automatic version cleans better. It is recommended to clean your pool weekly when in use.
5.Test your PH balance in the water to determine the level of cleanliness in the pool and to monitor chemical usage. PH increasers and decreasers should be used if your PH level is out of the 7.2 and 7.6 range.
6. Replace your old pool filter. If you notice that it starts become grimy, if it is collecting debris, or otherwise becoming dirty, it is recommended to replace it. It is best to replace yearly, but if you keep it in good clean condition, you should be able to use it longer.
7. Lastly, add sanitizing tablets of chlorine. The chlorine in the tablets is designed to kill bacteria that can contaminate the pool and reduces the amount of grime and bacteria buildup until your next cleaning.
