About Southlake

On the off chance that Southlake needed to pick a father, it may be Clovis Monroe Gordon – C.M. to his family and companions. In August 1956, his wife Barbara reviews, he got back home with vital news: Hurst was attempting to attach unincorporated zones, including theirs.

The Gordons called neighbors, and inside of days enough marks had been gathered on an appeal requesting a vote on fuse of another town. To set up the vote, research material must be hand-conveyed to Austin. The proposed joining papers incorporated the words "Every one of us live here on the grounds that we like it."

On Sept. 25, 1956, a vote was held at the neighborhood school, the 1919 Carroll School at Carroll and 114. It went, with 30 for and 24 against (a few individuals didn't think Hurst would add). At in the first place, the town measured just 1.62 square miles, with around 200 inhabitants. A. Gail Eubanks was chosen the first chairman. (Chairman Eubanks' girl concocted the name Southlake; see DID YOU KNOW on the landing page.)

Colleyville and Westlake additionally fused in 1956.

By 1956, recreational open doors at the lake and the opportunity to live in the nation pulled in new inhabitants. At the point when the air terminal was inherent the 1970s, numerous pilots and their families moved in.

As the region flourished, city administrations were included and the schools developed. The Dragon football group won its first region title in 1965.

A Home Rule Charter went in 1987 permitting Southlake to every year addition area equivalent to 10 percent of its size. In 1988, the city consented to an interlocal arrangement with the Trinity River Authority that took into account city sterile sewer. Post Worth was lined up to give water.

With base coming into spot, Southlake was balanced for change.

"We had a clear canvas," recalled Gary Fickes, who was chosen to the city gathering in 1985 and served as chairman from 1989-1996. (He and others acquainted with Southlake throughout the years showed up at a 2006 SPIN gathering on city history; the video shows up in the Photo and Video Gallery. A DVD of the presentation can be found at the Southlake Library.)

"The gathering and the group had a chance to paint it the way they thought best," he said. Solana had set the tone for quality, and numerous activities conveyed to the city for endorsement were turned down. Since area expenses were rising, more costly homes were being fabricated.

Until the 1990s, what the Dallas Morning News portrayed as "a camp of trailers, shacks and junk heaps known as Shantytown" was found where Bob Jones Park is presently. On an oak tree beside a baseball field you can at present see decades-old chain denote that show where butchered pigs were hung.

In the 1990s, more subdivisions started to show up. Timarron, constructed in the '90s, was the first genuine expert arranged subdivision in Southlake. Through it all, the chairman and City Council kept the city-arranging reins tight.
